Musical Theatre is open to those who have either taken Drama I or have at least one year of high school. In order to be in Musical Theatre, you must also take Glee for the second semester. Vocal lessons and summer dance practice are also required.
If you want to be part of Musical Theatre there are a few things you should know. Musical Theatre is ONE SEMESTER only, the other will be occupied by Glee (Please note that if you want to take Glee but not Musical Theatre, you may do so with an appointment with your counselor). Each year around April we choose the musical for the next year, then audition at the end of May. This means that we/you have from May until November to learn dances, songs, build sets, and lines. During summer vacation we will have MANDATORY dance rehearsal sessions, where (with our dance instructor) we will choreograph our show. When the year starts you will be required to attend a minimum of 8 Saturday work hours, where you will build sets and make props, and a minimum of four Tuesday costume hours. In class you will need your script and a change of comfortable clothes on the days we work on dance. We will start class with vocal warm-ups and proceed to work on songs with our pianist. You must also attend after school Monday rehearsals to work on lines.
Glee takes place in the Spring Semester. Each year a new repertoire is chosen and will be worked on until our Glee show. As of the 2016-2017 school year, the Glee class will be dissolved into a full year of Musical Theatre.
Beauty and Beast:
The 2015-2016 Musical Theatre class performed Beauty and the Beast last year, starring Jenni Knight and Kylie Adams as Belle, and James Graves as the Beast.
